Lauren Ratcliffe: Storyteller | Marketer | Strategist
Thank you for checking out my website! I'm a writer and journalist based in Charlotte, N.C. currently I work as a member of the assignment desk team at WSOC-TV, the number 1 station in Charlotte, N.C. Prior to joining the premier news team in Charlotte, I worked as the lead assignment editor at FOX 46 Charlotte, the new FOX O&O, and as the overnight weekend producer for NBC News Channel and as a business journalist in Charleston, S.C., covering hospitality, real estate, city government and health care. My experience also includes shooting and editing video, writing package, VO and VOSOT scripts and shooting still photography.
I love to tell stories about people. They are, after all, the bread and butter of all journalism. Whether it's the story of a new business, a new law or how businesses, government and people's lives intersect, I believe the human element is what drives great storytelling.
I am a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Heels! I completed my degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and political science in 2011 and immediately left the country for an internship in Beijing, China. During the four amazing years I spent at UNC, I worked for The Daily Tar Heel and freelanced news articles to newspapers in Greensboro and Durham, North Carolina.
With stints in print and broadcast journalism, as well as photography, I believe in a multifaceted approach to storytelling. I consider visual elements when writing print stories to help my readers experience the moment. I fundamentally believes in the power of a good story and am excited about the changes occurring in the news industry and the media's ability to reach and connect with readers in new ways. A people person, I genuinely enjoy the interviewing process and believe a good story is always worth searching for.
When I'm not searching for or writing a story, I love the outdoors. I love SCUBA diving, hiking, fly fishing and exercising. On the less active side, I love live music, experiencing the new local hangouts and trying my hand at new recipes in the kitchen. In the fall and winter I can be found watching Tar Heel football and basketball with friends and enthusiastically cheering and "coaching" from behind the TV.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with story pitches, comments or critiques of my work. Contact me HERE.
